Some critics of the carbon offsets and carbon credits programs claimed that these programs trod on business owners rights to produce their products as they need to produce them. Other critics claim that the responsibility for curbing a company’s carbon emissions should lie in the hands of consumers who can opt whether or not they want to give their support to a company who produces a lot of carbon emissions or one who runs on a more environmentally friendly model.
